ANDREW EDEN, a 20-year- old Lancastrian, saved two match points to score a win on his England debut during the 4-2 victory over Japan at Bletchley last night, writes James Leigh.
England completed a 4-0 series victory and the national champion, Carl Prean, ended with a 100 per cent record with eight wins to his credit.
Prean won in straight games against Kinjiro Nakamura and Yuji Matsushita, the winner of Monday's Cleveland 5-star Open. But the highlight was Eden's inspiring 14-21, 21-10, 22-20 win over Yoji Morimoto.
Meanwhile, at Warwick, England's No 1 Lisa Lomas became the second player to beat the former world champion, Koyama Chire, on successive nights. However, she could not prevent England losing 6-4.
