Blyth Tait had a brief 10 days' acquaintance with the mare, Stroke of Luck, before gaining the best marks during yesterday's first day of dressage at the Bramham Three-Day Event, writes Genevieve Murphy.
The New Zealander now holds a narrow lead over two British riders, Simon Lawrence on The Bishop, and Ian Stark on Forest Glen.
Stroke of Luck is owned by Christian Landolt, who broke his shoulder after falling from the mare at Luhmuhlen last month, which is why Tait was offered the ride.
