Tauziat into final
The No2 seed, Nathalie Tauziat of France, took just 63 minutes yesterday to reach the final of the DFS Classic grass-court tournament in Birmingham, beating Miriam Oremans of Holland 6-2 6-3. Tauziat broke Oremans in the first game of the match and was seldom challenged. She went one set ahead in just 30 minutes, establishing her lead on her first chance with a lob that Oremans could not return. Another break of serve in the first game of the second set put Tauziat firmly in charge again, and she took the match when an Oremans forehand flew long in the ninth game. "It was important to start well against Miriam because if she gets confident she can be very dangerous," Tauziat said. Oremans agreed. "If I hadn't dropped my serve in the first game it might have been different," she said. The second semi-final produced a shock result for the top seeded Brenda Schultz-McCarthy of Holland, who was beaten 3-6 6-3 6-4 by Meredith McGrath, the Switzerland-based American.
