Pete Sampras, the world No 1, is planning to make his comeback from a wrist injury at next week's Monte Carlo Open. Sampras, who missed the recent Salem Open in Hong Kong and the Japan Open in Tokyo because of the injury has been a given a wild-card entry to the clay court event.
Boris Becker, who has just returned to tournament play after two months out, also with a wrist injury, yesterday pulled a thigh muscle and stumbled to a 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 defeat to Lionel Roux in the third round of the Japan Open.
