Tennis: Bond wins first title
EMILY BOND, from Gloucestershire, won her first senior title when she beat the Russian, Svetlana Parkhomenko, 7-5, 6-3 in the final of the LTA satellite event in Swindon yesterday.
Bond's success meant that she gained revenge for her defeat in the satellite final in Basingstoke a month ago.
The Russian Federation Cup player lost confidence around the net as Bond forced her on to the defensive by executing perfect passing shots from both sides. After falling 5-1 behind in the second set, she rallied to 5-3, but overall was let down by 10 double faults.
