THE world No 2, Arantxa Sanchez Vicario, withstood four rain delays and four match points to beat the world No 1, Steffi Graf, and win the Matinee International women's tennis championship 7-5, 1-6, 7-6 on Sunday.
It was Sanchez Vicario's second victory in the renamed Canadian Open. She also won it in 1992.
Graf was hampered in the final - which lasted 6hr 10min because of the rain - by a lower-back muscle strain which she is hoping will not bother her in the US Open, which starts on 29 August. 'I'll rest it (the back) and work on it and I hope it will be OK,' Graf said.
