A Hamburg court yesterday dismissed a civil suit filed by Monica Seles against the German Tennis Federation over her 1993 stabbing. Seles was seeking pounds 9.3m in damages for lost income after the attack, blaming the German federation for lack of security. Seles claimed the attack had resulted in not only physical injury but psychological trauma.

Jane Wood, the British No 7 from Middlesex, beat Emily Bond of Gloucestershire 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the final of the BTWA Christmas tournament at Queen's Club, London, yesterday.
