Andy Murray and Feliciano Lopez reached the doubles final at Queen’s after overcoming John Peers and Henri Kontinen 7-5, 6-7(5), 10-7 in a thrilling semi-final, in what was Lopez’s third match of a memorable day for the 37-year-old.

Lopez beat Canadian teenage talent Felix Auger-Aliassime 6-7(3), 6-3, 6-4 earlier in the day to reach the singles final, where he will meet fellow veteran Gilles Simon, who beat Daniil Medvedev in three sets.

He then returned to court with Murray to pick up their suspended quarter-final after bad light on Friday night, knocking out British pair Dan Evans and Ken Skupskil, before then beating Peers and Kontinen in the semi-final.

For Murray it was a special moment too in what is his first tournament since recovering from career-threatening hip surgery five months ago, and his impressive form suggests he can be a force at Wimbledon where he will play doubles alongside French specialist Pierre-Hugues Herbert.

Murray and Lopez will play Britain’s Joe Salisbury and America’s Rajeev Ram in Sunday’s final.
