Andy Murray vs Novak Djokovic preview: Murray faces toughest test yet in French Open semi-final

A look ahead to the semi-final meeting at Roland Garros

Andy Murray will be hoping to reverse his recent form against Novak Djokovic as the Brit takes on the world number one in the French Open semi-finals at Roland Garros.

This is the third time Murray has reached the French Open semi-final, having lost to Rafael Nadal in 2011 and 2014 and on Friday he faces the extremely tough task of defeating Djokovic, whose outstanding form this year has seen the Serbian make the world number one spot his own.

Djokovic goes into the tie after dethroning the King of Clay, Nadal, in straight sets to become only the second man ever to defeat the Spaniard at Roland Garros, extending his winning streak to 27 matches.

Meanwhile Murray was given the tricky assignment of taking on David Ferrer in his quarter-final tie, seeing off the Spaniard for the first time on clay in four sets after missing a match point in the third.

Murray’s previous record against the world number one suggests he has got it all to do to reach the French Open final for the first time.

Murray has lost his last seven matches against Djokovic, three being this year and Friday will be the 27th time they have met with the Serbian having won on 18 occasions previously. His last victory over Djokovic came in the 2013 Wimbledon final and whilst they have only met on clay twice before, Djokovic has been triumphant in both.

Nevertheless Murray will be hoping to put his recent form against Djokovic behind him and continue his 15 match unbeaten run on clay which includes victory over Rafael Nadal in the final of the Madrid Masters.

However, Djokovic, still yet to drop a set in this year’s French Open, will be looking to end Murray’s clay form to give himself the chance of claiming the only Grand Slam he is yet to win.
