Top seed Roger Federer cruised into the semi-finals of the Pacific Life Open in Indian Wells with a 6-2 6-1 victory over Argentina's Juan Ignacio Chela.

"It was a dangerous match, but I handled it well," said Federer, who was broken for the first time in four matches, but had 24 winners and broke service five times in the win.

The Swiss world number one now meets Andre Agassi in the last four in a repeat of last year's Tennis Masters Cup final.

The American hit 25 winners as he defeated Guillermo Coria 6-4 7-5 to book a semi spot.

Agassi is looking forward to his clash with Federer and said: "We've had some great matches in the past, so it's something to look forward to."

In the women's event, Justine Henin-Hardenne avenged her only loss of the year with a 6-4 7-5 victory over Svetlana Kuznetsova to move into the semi-finals.

The Belgian world number one was delighted after the one-hour 33-minute win against the Russian.

"I love these kind of matches because she's the only player to beat me this year," said Henin-Hardenne. "The fact that I lost against her in Doha for sure it was good for me that I got revenge because I know how well she's playing."

Henin-Hardenne was a perfect 16-0 this year before the 18-year-old posted a three-set semi-final triumph at the Dubai Open.

Henin-Hardenne will meet another Russian - fourth seed Anastasia Myskina - in the last four.

Myskina was forced to battle all the way before finally overcoming 11th seed Conchita Martinez of Spain 7-6 (7/2) 2-6 6-3.
