Henman powers through to quarter-finals

Tim Henman today kept alive his dreams of Wimbledon glory - winning his delayed fourth round match with Todd Martin 7-6, 6-7, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.

Martin had last night captured the third set 6-4 for a two sets to one lead before play was suspended shortly before 9pm. Henman was staring at a disappointing exit from the championships, particularly as Pete Sampras had been removed from his path in the quarter-finals after a shock defeat to Roger Federer.

But the British number one appeared re-invigorated by the rest and came out in a more positive and determined mood, opening with an ace on the first point of the set and then breaking Martin to forge a 4-2 lead.

The American clung on to force Henman to serve out for the set and the sixth seed duly obliged, taking it 6-3 to level the match at two sets all. Henman increasingly pressurised Martin's serve, reversing last night's run of play at heatwave Wimbledon.
