Tim Henman has been handed a daunting draw for next week's US Open, being paired with favourite Andy Roddick in the first round. The British No 1 missed out on being seeded by just one place. Greg Rusedski, also unseeded, facesFrance's Gregory Carraz.

In the women's singles, top seed Kim Clijsters begins her quest for a first Grand Slam title against the American Amber Liu, while her fellow Belgian and second seed, Justine Henin-Hardenne, faces a qualifier.

Fourth seed Venus Williams is also up against a qualifier, while No 3 seed Lindsay Davenport has a tougher task against another Belgian, Els Callens.
