Defending champion Martina Hingis reached the final of the $1.08 million du Maurier Open in Montreal today with an easy 6-3, 6-2 victory over Conchita Martinez.

The top-seeded Hingis rebounded from a sluggish start to dominate the third-seeded Spaniard. She will play the winner of the second semifinal between Serena Williams and two-time du Maurier champion Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario.

Martinez took a 3-1 lead in the first set before Hingis started hitting the lines with her shots and won the next seven straight games.

Hingis, ranked No. 1 by the WTA Tour, improved to 9-3 in her career against Martinez and avenged a defeat in their last meeting in the semifinals of this year's German Open, which the Spaniard went on to win.

Hingis is seeking her fifth tournament title this year.
