Laura Robson pulls out of French Open 2015 after delaying comeback from wrist surgery following 16-month absence

Robson is now likely to return ahead of June's Wimbledon Championship

Laura Robson has pulled out of the French Open later this month after delaying her return from the wrist injury that has kept her out of action for 16 months.

Robson has suffered a torrid time with injury having first picked up the problem at the Australian Open in 2014, and she missed the entire season before eyeing a return at Roland Garros – which gets underway on 19 May.

However, the 21-year-old has withdrawn from the French Open having initially been named in the entry list, and the BBC report that Robson could return at one of the British grass-court tournaments later this year, with an eye on making her Grand Slam return at Wimbledon at the end of June.

The former British No 1, who is currently unranked by the WTA following her prolonged absence, was not able to play any tournaments in the build-up to Roland Garros, and with clay her least favoured and most demanding surface, a decision was taken to delay her comeback.
