Lewis one win away

Chris Lewis, the 21-year-old from Neath who has no suitable grass courts to practice on in Wales, is one victory away from qualifying for Wimbledon next week after he beat the Czech Pavel Snobel 6-2, 7-5 at Roehampton yesterday.

The 20-year-old Cristelle Grier, of Surrey, defied her world ranking of 893rd to defeat Anna Hawkins of Wiltshire, ranked 618th, 6-3, 6-0. Grier, whose father Richard is championships director at Wimbledon, is on a four-year scholarship at Northwestern University in Chicago.
