Gael Monfils' hopes of a place at this month's World Tour finals suffered a blow when he was upset 7-6, 3-6, 6-4 by Spain's Marcel Granollers in the quarter-finals of the Valencia Open yesterday.
The Frenchman must now win the Paris Masters to secure one of three remaining places in the eight-man competition at the O2 Arena. David Ferrer, Novak Djokovic, Rafa Nadal, Andy Murray and Roger Federer have already qualified.
