Top-seeded Amelie Mauresmo of France defeated Kim Clijsters of Belgium to win the Eurotel Slovak Indoor tennis tournament in Bratislava today, clinching her first WTA tournament victory.

Mauresmo was runner-up at the Australian Open but has struggled since with injuries. She made short work of her opponent with a crisp 6-3, 6-3 result in just under one hour.

Throughout the match, the French player overpowered the 54th-ranked Clijsters with a superior service game.

Clijsters steadied in the second set and took an early 2-0 lead before Mauresmo regained the service advantage and quickly wrapped up the match.

Mauresmo's place in the final was a formality on Saturday after her semi-final opponent Kveta Hrdlickova of the Czech Republic was forced to retire from the tournament after being stung by a wasp.

Mauresmo took away $16,000 and 80 points in WTA rankings for her first tournament win. It was also the first WTA event to be staged in the Slovak capital.
