Rafael Nadal returned to the training court and started hitting balls again yesterday for the first time since the latest in a series of knee injuries forced his withdrawal from the US Open at the end of August.
Nadal, who has won 11 Grand Slam singles titles but has not competed since being stunned by Czech Lukas Rosol in the second round at Wimbledon in June, hopes to be back to full fitness in time for the Australian Open in January.
