Rusedski's power puts Roddick in sight

Greg Rusedski is on course for a third-round rematch with his Wimbledon conqueror Andy Roddick at the Legg Mason Classic here.

Rusedski, seeded 14, cruised through with a 6-2, 6-4 second-round win over Ivan Miranda, of Spain, and is scheduled to face Roddick if the second seed beat his fellow American Bob Bryan late last night.

Roddick beat Rusedski 7-6, 7-6, 7-5 at the All England Club and was also victorious when the pair met in the Stella Artois tournament at Queen's. Rusedski did come out on top in their only other meeting, however, winning 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 at last year's Wimbledon.

Tim Henman was due to face Paul Goldstein in the second round last night after the American beat compatriot Brian Baker 6-2, 6-2.

Henman said: "The last few weeks have been good. I was able to wind down after Wimbledon and then enjoy a little time away with family and friends before returning to the practice court last week to start my preparation for the hard court season.

"I'm looking to get a good start in Washington to try and build up some momentum going into the Masters Series events, where I need to do as well as possible to improve both my confidence going into the US Open."

The top seed Andre Agassi defeated Ivo Heuberger, of Switzerland, 6-2 6-2 to reach the third round. The American said: "I felt pretty good out there, playing my first match in several weeks. I served pretty well."
