Marat Safin advanced to the Wimbledon semifinals Wednesday by beating Feliciano Lopez 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (1), 6-2 to set up a match against five-time champion Roger Federer.
Safin, the first Russian man to reach the Wimbledon semifinals in the Open era, was trailing 5-2 in the first set when play was suspended by rain.
The former top-ranked player has won two Grand Slam titles, the last coming at the 2005 Australian Open.
