SW19 Diary: Errani's brief reign

On Court 16 it did not take Sara Errani, the Italian runner-up at Roland Garros, long to wrap up her rain-delayed victory over the American CoCo Vandeweghe – a name F Scott Fitzgerald would surely have been proud of. Rain interrupted on Tuesday with Errani on match point and yesterday Vandeweghe opened with a double fault. Game over in seven seconds, or less time than it took you to read this.

This Heather didn't grow in Scotland

Exchange of the day. Scottish journalist to Heather Watson: "You have a very Scottish-sounding name. Do you know if there's any ancestry there?" Heather Watson to Scottish journalist: "Well, my dad is from Manchester and my mum is from Papua New Guinea, so no."

Breakfast of champions?

The new darling of British (and as we've established not Scottish) tennis has a secret to her success: breakfast. And it's a suitably SW19-type breakfast as well – scrambled egg and smoked salmon. It's quickly become her superstition as she's forged her way into the third round. "Toast on the side," she says.

Footy may be Andy's biggest foe

Andy Murray's first match, against Nikolay Davydenko, attracted a peak audience of 4.1m on BBC2. Expect that to climb rapidly as the tournament progresses, especially if the BBC can keep the Scot in the last spot on Centre that ensures a tea-time slot. In years gone by, his matches have reached close to 12m peak, but this year it will be interesting how the tennis fares with Euro 2012. England broke the 20m barrier against Italy, while even Germany's quarter-final with Greece attracted double Murray's tally. They were both on BBC1, though, which, for some reason beyond the diary's comprehension, always brings bigger numbers than its sister channel.
