Understandably, the US Davis Cup tennis team does not have the heart to play a World Group qualifying round tie against India in North Carolina next weekend, and the match has been postponed for a month. But it seems that America's golfers may have missed an opportunity by postponing next week's Ryder Cup contest at The Belfry for a year. A visit to Britain in the current circumstances may have been an uplifting experience. Forget the odd fluffed tee-shot or missed putt and the philosophy that winning is everything. Chances are the Americans would have been treated to roars of approval here simply for taking part, and the show of moral support would most likely have percolated back home.
