Not so much third time lucky as seventh time lucky.

Yet despite the previous six failed attempts, Andy Murray's victory over Rafael Nadal on clay in Madrid was the perfect preparation for the British No 1 as he heads into the French Open.

Murray recorded one of his best victories against Nadal, who is considered one of the finest players on clay, having won the French Open an astonishing nine times.

Yet Murray defeated the "King of Clay" in Madrid in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, just a week after winning another clay tournament, the Munich Open.
