Wimbledon 2019: When is Cori Gauff’s next match and who will she play?
After stunning Venus Williams in the first round, the American teenager stated her goal is to now win the women’s singles title
Fifteen-year-old Cori Gauff heads into the second round of Wimbledon looking to replicate the form that saw her sensationally beat Venus Williams on Monday.
Gauff is 24 years younger than Williams, who along with sister Serena inspired her to pick up a racket, but was composure personified in her first main draw match at a grand slam, winning 6-4 6-4.
After stunning Williams, the American teenager stated her goal is to now win the title.
“I want to be the greatest,” she said. “My dad told me that I could do this when I was eight. Obviously you never believe it. I’m still not 100 per cent confident. But you have to just say things. You never know what happens.”
All eyes will be fixed on the youngster when she next takes to the court to see if she can build on Monday’s display.
Who is her next opponent?
Gauff will play Slovakia’s Magdalena Rybarikova – 15 years her senior – in the second round.
When does she play?
The teenager will play on Wednesday. Her court will be confirmed when the order of play for day three is announced.
