Ian Ritchie, who was yesterday named the new RFU chief executive (AP)
The RFU's gain is Wimbledon's loss. Since his appointment as the All England Club's chief executive in 2005, Ian Ritchie has established a reputation as one of sport's top administrators. Personable and approachable, he has also shown a determination to strengthen Wimbledon's finances and preserve its status as the biggest global tennis event.
The installation of a retractable Centre Court roof and Hawk-Eye technology – both carried out under Ritchie's watch – have been evidence of Wimbledon's determination not to fall behind the times. Ritchie has overseen a major rebuilding programme, including construction of new No 2 and No 3 courts. He also played an important role in bringing the Association of Tennis Professionals World Tour Finals to London.
