Turkey aims to curb exuberant fans

Turkey is to crack down on fans who have accidentally killed several people in recent seasons by firing pistols into the air to celebrate football victories. The interior ministry is to increase the jail term for using guns in residential areas to one year from the current one month.

Four Malaysian players were detained for questioning yesterday over new allegations of match-fixing. Eighty players implicated in match-fixing by police have been barred from the Malaysian League this season.
