Twose misses out on century
New Zealand 276-8 United Arab Emirates 167-9 NZ win by 109 runs
Roger Twose and Craig Spearman hit half-centuries as New Zealand crushed the United Arab Emirates in Faisalabad, Pakistan to seal their place in the World Cup quarter-finals.
Twose, the former Warwickshire left-hander, narrowly missed his maiden one-day international century with 92 from 112 balls, including eight fours.
Spearman scored a forceful 78 from 77 balls to help New Zealand to 276 for 8 in 47 overs.
The Group B match was reduced from 50 to 47 overs after heavy mist delayed the start for an hour. The New Zealand bowlers kept up the pressure on the UAE, who limped to 167 for 9 in their 47 overs.
It was New Zealand's third victory in four matches. They lost by five wickets against South Africa at the same venue. Shane Thomson finished with 3 for 20 and Dion Nash 2 for 34.
For the UAE it was their fourth defeat but Johanne Samarsekera, batting at No 9, made a valiant unbeaten 47 with seven fours from 59 balls.
