Tyson must pay trainer

Mike Tyson was yesterday ordered by a federal jury in Albany, New York, to pay his former trainer, Kevin Rooney, $4.4m (pounds 2.56m). Rooney had sued Tyson for $49 million, claiming the heavyweight champion had broken a lifetime contract.

Robbie Regan has been forced to withdraw from the first defence of his World Boxing Organisation bantamweight title on 19 October against the Scot Drew Docherty in Cardiff after failing to shake off the after-effects of a virus.
