The ever changing story on whether Conor McGregor will or won't fight at UFC 200 took another twist today when UFC president Dana White confirmed that the Irishman has not been restored to the card on for the 9 July event.

McGregor had been due for a rematch of his defeat to Nate Diaz before a falling out with UFC last week.

McGregor tweeted in the early hours of this morning: “Happy to announce that I am BACK on UFC 200! Shout out to Dana White and Lorenzo Fertitta on getting this one done for the fans. #Respect.”

However, White confirmed to the Los Angeles Times by text message that a deal had not been reached and that McGregor's claim is “not true." In the same text, White also confirmed: "We haven’t talked to Conor or his manager since the press conference. I don’t know why he would tweet that.”

It would seem a resolution is no closer on the situation with both McGregor and Diaz adamant that they want to fight each other at the event. Seemingly, the UFC have other ideas and at the UFC 200 news conference last Friday, White announced that should Diaz want to remain on the card, then they would find him a new opponent, much to the displeasure of the man from Stockton.

The confirmation that McGregor's tweet was inaccurate comes as no real surprise given the circumstances surrounding it. The UFC have never allowed any of their fighters to make such a huge announcement via their own social media platforms, neither have they ever made an announcement of this magnitude late on a Sunday evening US time.

The UFC also hold a trump card now following UFC 197 last Saturday when Jon Jones defeated Ovince Saint Preux to win the interim UFC light heavyweight belt. Assuming Jones has come out of that fight with no injuries and that Daniel Cormier receives a positive scan on his injuries today, it is expected that the new main event will be confirmed as Jon Jones versus Daniel Cormier II to unify the UFC light heavyweight title.

No doubt there will be further twists to the story.
