Conor McGregor may not fight again this year after receiving a medical suspension of up to six months.

The reigning UFC featherweight champion claimed a five-round victory in his rematch against Nate Diaz at UFC 202 on Saturday, yet sustained injuries to his left foot and ankle.

McGregor was included in a list of injuries and medical suspensions released by the Nevada State Athletic Commission following Saturday’s event.

The Crumlin-born fighter, who arrived at his post-fight press conference on crutches, must now have the injuries cleared by an orthopaedic doctor in order to compete before next February.

McGregor will have to serve a minimum two-month fight suspension until 20 October, with no contact training permitted until 5 October.

The injury may rule McGregor out of an appearance at UFC 205 in New York, scheduled to be held on 12 November.

UFC 205 will be the promotion company’s first New York-based event and, given the city’s substantial Irish community, McGregor had been mooted as a potential headliner.
