UFC star Conor McGregor is still planning on a return to the Octagon soon despite his recent arrest, his agent has insisted.

McGregor appeared in a New York City courtroom on Friday afternoon on charges of assault, following a violent backstage fracas after a press event at UFC 223.

He is charged with three counts of assault and one count of criminal mischief, after the altercation in a parking lot at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn which left two UFC fighters injured.

He was released from custody on bail and ordered to return for a court hearing on June 14, with his bail set at $50k.

But despite his legal trouble his agent has insisted the Irishman is planning on returning to action “as soon as possible”.

“[There has been] so much rumour and misinformation about my client, Conor McGregor,” Audie Attar wrote on Twitter.

“The matter is in the hands of law enforcement and I cannot really say more.

“Conor is a great father, a fiercely loyal friend and one of the best athletes in the world.

“He looks forward to getting back to fighting as soon as possible.”

The UFC has not yet disciplined McGregor though everyone involved in instigating the press conference day fight on Thursday was not allowed at the arena.

McGregor – the former featherweight and lightweight world champion – last fought in the UFC in November 2016, when he knocked out Eddie Alvarez in the second round of their title fight.
