Conor McGregor turned up a super-fan’s apartment after spotting a cardboard cut-out of himself hanging from a balcony in Los Angeles.

In a video released by TMZ, the UFC featherweight champion is seen driving when a man in a nearby apartment shouts: “Conor, you the man!”

McGregor recognises him as a fan who hangs a cardboard cut-out of the 27-year-old mixed martial artist from his balcony every day, as well as an Irish tricolour, and replies: “I’m going to come up to you tomorrow.”

“I drive to the gym every day and I drive past this apartment,” McGregor explains to the camera. “On the balcony he has Irish flags and a cardboard cut-out of me sitting on his balcony. So, now we're going to drop in, see what he's about and meet one of the fans."

The fan, named Josh, is unsurprisingly delighted to be paid a brief visit by his hero, who proceeds to sign autographs and admire his new friend’s stock of McGregor merchandise. The Crumlin fighter is most taken by a pair of limited edition ‘Conor Mcgregor’ Reebok trainers, claiming: “I don’t even them!”

“I appreciate the support of all the fans out here and all over the world,” says ‘The Notorious’ in the film. “I never take it for granted, I use it as motivation, so I’m extremely grateful to the fans.”

McGregor’s fight against Nate Diaz headlines UFC 196 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on Saturday 5 March.
