Conor McGregor could not hide his disappointment at Robert Byrd’s decision to end his fight with Floyd Mayweather in the tenth round, insisting that he should have been allowed to be knocked unconscious.

The Irish UFC star fought valiantly against the undefeated American boxer, who extended his professional record to 50-0, but tired in the later rounds and lost via TKO in the tenth.

However immediately after the fight he claimed the method of defeat had left him disappointed.

“I thought it was close though and I thought it was a bit of an early stoppage,” he said after his defeat.

“I was just a little fatigued. He was just a lot more composed with his shots.

“When you're in here in the squared circle, everything is different. Let the man put me down, that's fatigue, that's not damage.

“Where was the final two rounds? Let me walk back to my corner and compose myself.”

McGregor also paid tribute to Mayweather, admitting that the American was the superior boxer.

The build-up to the fight between the two men has been controversial and frequently vicious, with both men launching a number of stinging personal attacks on one another.

But in the end McGregor had nothing but praise for his opponent.

“I have to give it to him, that's what 50 pro fights will do for you,” he said.

“He's composed, he's not that fast, he's not that powerful, but boy is he composed in there.”
