Chicago's landmark victory in the World Series has triggered a wave of emotional and touching videos of elderly fans celebrating back at home

A generation of Chicago Cubs fans have not had the pleasure of experiencing the thrill of winning the World Series, given it took them 108 years to finally claim their third Major League Baseball victory.

Having grown into baseball’s “Lovable Losers”, the Cubs saw their early dominance of the World Series fall apart and after winning two of the first five World Series, fans have had to endure over a century’s worth of pain and disappointment.

That was until Wednesday 03 November 2016, when the Cubs sealed a famous comeback victory over the Cleveland Indians – having trailed in the best-of-seven series 3-1 – to break the Curse of the Billy Goat and spark wild celebrations across Chicago.

But amid all the joy and fanfare in and around Wrigley Field, the most touching celebrations took place in the home of the Cubs supporters that have had to endure the worst of the run.

Fans are using social media to upload videos of elderly fans celebrating the sight of their beloved Cubs winning the World Series for the first time, with one man finally able to crack open a beer that he has saved in his fridge for the last 32 years having promised to drink it until the Cubs ended the drought.

Having seen plenty of celebrations over the years, it’s hard to think of anything that can come as a surprise these days, but seeing old people celebrate a first World Series win is definitely one of those things.

With the curse finally lifted, Chicago fans will hope that they can replicate their 1907/1908 success and retain the World Series next year to give them even more to celebrate.
