New York Mets shortstop Wilmer Flores was spotted crying on the pitch as rumours filtered through that he was going to be traded to the Milwaukee Brewers during the 7-3 defeat to the San Diego Padres.

Wednesday's clash between the MLB rivals was already a dramatic affair before the suggestion that Flores was set to be replaced by All-Star outfielder Carlos Gomez.

According to reports in the US, the deal fell apart in the final stages which would appear to explain why Flores was allowed to remain on the pitch as departing players are usually pulled immediately.
