NBA London 2016: Orland Magic to face Toronto Raptors at the o2 in January

The NBA has today announced that the regular-season game between the Orlando Magic and Toronto Raptors will be played at London’s O2 arena.

The match, scheduled for January 14 2016, will mark a return to the capital for sides, in what will be the league’s sixth clash in London.

The Magic first appeared in London back in 1993 for a pair of pre-season games, while the Raptors competed in back-to-back matches in 2011 marking the NBA’s first regular-season venture into Europe.

“We look forward to returning to London next season with a regular-season game between the Orlando Magic and the Toronto Raptors,” said league commissioner Adam Silver.

“This underscores our commitment to growing basketball in the region and to bringing more regular-season basketball to our fans in the UK.”

New York Knicks faced the Milwaukee Bucks in last year’s Global Games in London, and both coaches of this year’s teams are looking forward to the contest.

“On behalf of the Magic organization, we are looking forward to returning to London for NBA Global Games 2016,” said Magic head coach Scott Skiles. “ I remember playing in London with the Magic in 1993 and I am sure our current players will relish this unique opportunity.”

Dwane Casey, head coach of the Raptors added: “NBA Global Games 2016 in London is a great platform for our players and staff to represent the NBA and bond with Raptors fans overseas. We look forward to an exciting atmosphere for our game against the Magic.”
