Walsall triumph with goal glut in extra time
Torquay United, bottom of the Endsleigh League, came within a whisker of reaching the third round of the FA Cup, but ended up losing a remarkable second-round replay 8-4 at Walsall.
As the 90 minutes ebbed away with the sides tied at 3-3, Ian Hathaway hit a shot that looked as if it would put Torquay through, but the ball hit first one post, then the other but it did not cross the line. In extra time Walsall cut loose, scoring five times to earn a home tie with Wigan.
An 80th-minute winner from Dean Martin, who turned in David Thomson's cross, earned Third Division Rochdale a trip to Liverpool in the third round.
Dean Spink was central to Shrewsbury's victory over Scunthorpe, which was built on two goals in a six-minute spell. Spink put Richard Scott through on a run that took him past two tackles and the goalkeeper to give Shrewsbury a 35th-minute lead. Then Spink was pulled down and Darren Rowbotham converted the penalty. Jamie Paterson pulled one back for Scunthorpe.
Darren Hay scored both Woking's goals as the Vauxhall Conference side subdued the challenge of the Icis League side, Enfield, 2-1.
