Tony Agana and Devon White scored the goals that gave the First Division strugglers Notts County victory in the Anglo-Italian Cup, their first trophy at Wembley.
In front of a crowd of 11,704, the victory helped make up for last year's 1-0 defeat by Brescia and provided the Midlands club with a morale boost in their endeavours to avoid relegation.
All the goals came in the first half. Agana touched in a long throw from Andrew Legg to give Howard Kendall's side the lead. Ascoli recovered and after 32 minutes Shaun Murphy's clearance rebounded to the Italian striker, Walter Mirabelli, who calmly equalised.
If County's first goal owed much to the power of Legg's arms, then their winner was down to the leaping power of White. The former Queen's Park Rangers forward rose way above the Italians' defence, powerfully heading in Paul Devlin's cross from the right.

Notts County: Cherry (Reece, 74); Short, Mills, Turner, Murphy, Johnson (Emenalo, 74), Devlin, White, Agana (Gallagher, 86), Simpson, Legg.
