They may have left the set with their heads hanging after a crushing 305 to 75 defeat, but one member from the Sidney Sussex College Cambridge team emerged victorious on University Challenge last night for having arguably one of the most talked-about hairstyles this year so far.
Despite not winning the quiz show, young Nicholas Bennett - a mathematics student from London - still managed to win the hearts of viewers who took to Twitter in awe of his unusual hair, a cross between an afro and a quiff:
And from the winning team, Imperial College contestant, James Bezer - a physics student from Manchester - also left Twitter users with wide-open mouths after a stellar performance which undoubtedly helped carry his team to victory:
University Challenge has been making news in recent weeks after a series of contestant appearances sent social media users into a frenzy. Kamil Shah from King’s College, Cambridge, had Twitter talking about his controversial choice of attire which included a leather vest.
Shortly after, Kate Lynes from Queen Mary University of London was said to have given the ‘best introduction ever’ after revealing she was studying for an MD in sphincter preservation.
And, more recently, Charlie Clegg, from St John’s College at Oxford, seemed to forget the point of being on a quiz show when he almost jumped out of his seat at the sound of his own teammate’s buzzer.
