The Angry Birds/20th Century Fox crossover Angry Birds Rio notched up a total 10 million downloads worldwide in the ten days following its March 22 release.

Paid-for and free versions in the App Store cover the iPhone and its iOS siblings, while Android users can nab a free, ad-supported game from their handsets' Marketplace.

The original Angry Birds had been knocked from its perch atop the App Store's weekly top sellers charts by newcomer Tiny Wings, before the Rio edition landed first place in its opening week.

The change marks a test of Tiny Wings' staying power. To become one of the App Store's essential titles it will need to prove as consistently popular as Angry Birds, Fruit Ninja, Cut The Rope, Doodle Jump, and Words with Friends.

New levels for Angry Birds Rio will be issued in May, say Rovio Entertainment, with an Angry Birds Seasons update due late April.
