Apple hiring a music journalist amid plans to shake up iTunes
Job ad follows Apple’s hiring of Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe
Apple is hiring a music journalist, in the latest move that hints at plans to revamp the iTunes Store and its other music offerings.
The ad follows Apple’s hire of Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe, and could be part of a broader push to bring journalism and curation features into iTunes and its other music offerings.
“iTunes is looking for an editorial producer with experience across pop culture and a specific expertise in music journalism,” the ad says. “The editorial duties focus on writing, editing, managing a sea of freelancers, and working collaboratively with business and content heads to shape and define editorially driven merchandising promotions.”
The role will be based in London. The ad does not specify when the new hire might start.
The job ad was posted online and spotted by Music Ally.
The new hire could be linked to Apple’s plans to release a new music app for iPhones and other devices. Apple is widely expected to announce an update early this year that will incorporate technologies that it bought during last year’s acquisition of Beats.
When streaming service Beats Music was launched, its offering focused largely on curation, including playlists made by famous musicians and DJs.
