Belkin router broken: If your internet was down, this is the reason why

People using Belkin wireless routers around the world suffered huge internet outages overnight as an unknown fault caused several models to malfunction.

The company issued a temporary fix as customers in Britain, the US, Australia and Europe flooded phone lines with complaints.

A spokesperson said the problem has now been resolved and the routers should he working normally.

“The outage was affecting customers globally – but we have confirmed that the internet connectivity issue is now resolved,” he added.

“We sincerely apologise for this inconvenience to our customers.

“We are taking a number of actions to eliminate this sort of incident from reoccurring.”

Anyone still having issues is advised to unplug their router and plug it back in after a minute. It should reconnect to the internet shortly afterwards.

Technology analysts suggested that a firmware update may have caused the faults with older 802.11n models, including the F9K1102, F9K1105, F9K1113, and F9K1116.

The outages started on Tuesday and continued into Wednesday morning, with many disgruntled customers taking to Twitter.
