Crazy times in 'bizarre 'Shadows of the Damned' trailer

Japanese video game directors Goichi 'Suda51' Suda and Shinji Mikami discuss the unique aspects of Shadows of the Damned in a new video, aided by some utterly over-the-top translators.

"The main character, Garcia Hotspur, is a demon hunter. That's his job," explains Suda, spoken for by a gravelly British gangster, and sitting on a chair decorated with the faces of baby dolls.

"[Garcia] has a partner by the name of Johnson. He's a skull. He can speak - he can also transform into a gun or a motorcycle at times."

Suda made his name with Killer7 and No More Heroes, while Mikami has been instrumental in developing the Resident Evil games as well as off-kilter combat titles God Hand and Vanquish.

"The hell depicted in this game is the overall sum of all things evil dark and scary in our everyday lives," says Mikami, voiced by a blockbuster movie announcer. "Enemies become stronger in the darkness and they become harder to defeat."

"The punk rock theme is everywhere: even a gun would have a skull on it. It's not something you would see in the real world," he continues, before naming one particularly phallic firearm which is far longer than it is wide.

It's as if Alan Wake and Resident Evil 4 had a silly baby and sent it to insanity school.

Shadows of the Damned is due on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on June 21 in North America, June 28 in Europe. That's around week after the shenanigans of Duke Nukem Forever and the similarly strange Alice: Madness Returns.
