Facebook F8: app leaks new features, including Messenger update and ‘Teleportation Station’

Facebook’s big developer conference begins today, but some of its biggest announcements already seem to have been revealed

A Facebook app made for the network’s annual conference appears to have leaked some of the company’s biggest planned updates.

The social network’s F8 conference began today, but some users of its official app have reported seeing notifications about announcements already. An alert was sent to multiple users that said: “Just revealed: Parse for IoT, Messenger as a Platform, and the Teleportation Station”.

It’s unclear what any of the announcements refer to. Parse is Facebook’s backend tool for developers, Messenger is the instant messaging platform that seems to be in the process of being broken off from the main site, and the “Teleportation Station” does not seem to refer to any previously announced product.

The teleportation could be something to do with Oculus, the virtual reality firm that Facebook bought last year. Facebook hasn’t yet announced how the acquisition will fit into the main company, or what its plans for the acquisition were.

The notification is presumed to have been supposed to go out later today, after the keynote presentation where new announcements are made.

Facebook’s F8 conference runs today and tomorrow, and serves as Facebook’s biggest chance of the year to show off updates and new products to developers and customers. The company has said that all of its major products — including Instagram, WhatsApp and Oculus — will receive updates.
