The annual Games Media Awards held on the evening of Thursday, October 14, in London served to highlight the best of the current crop of British games writers, with IGN UK, Eurogamer, Rock Paper Shotgun and the venerated PC Zone taking trophies on the night.

IGN UK won in the Games Broadcast category, for Jon Blyth's regular Blyth Report video series, while its Games Editor, Martin Robinson, snagged the Rising Star award.

Blyth also won Specialist Print Writer for his freelance work, which has appeared in PC Zone, PC Gamer, the UK's Official Nintendo Magazine, Eurogamer, and The Guardian.

Three of those also received plaudits on the night: Eurogamer scooped Best Website for the third year in a row, The Guardian with its GamesBlog section won Best National Newspaper Coverage, and the recently retired PC Zone was bestowed with the title of Games Media Legend.

PC Zone was the UK's first dedicated PC gaming magazine, running for 225 issues from April 1993 until its final issue on September 2. Charlie Brooker got his start there, and many of its writers and editors went on to take up reputable positions in the industry. The award was presented by Pat Garratt of VG247.com, who was 2009's Legend.

The Scotsman's Dave Cook won Best Regional Columnist back in 2008 and took it again for 2010, the PC gaming experts of Rock Paper Shotgun took Best Games Blog, while CVG's Tim Ingham won Specialist Writer Online and nostalgia mag Retro Gamer became Best Magazine.
