Google's Eric Schmidt writes guide to switching from iPhone to an Android handset

Schmidt says Android devices "have better screens, are faster, and have a much more intuitive interface"

Ever since their famous PC vs Mac adverts, Apple has been well known for delivering not-so-subtle rebukes to their competitors.

Now it seems that Android is having a go at the same game, with Google’s excutive chairman Eric Schmidt publicly posting a guide on how to switch from an iPhone to an Android handset.

The 900+ word guide was posted to Schmidt’s Google Plus account where it has already accrued more than two thousand ‘+1s’ (the equivalent of a Facebook like) and just under a thousand responses.

Schmidt says that “many” of his friends are making the switch from Apple’s products to one of the many Android devices, and names “the latest high end phones” from Samsung and Motorola as well as Google’s own Nexus 5 as good candidates.

He says Android devices "have better screens, are faster, and have a much more intuitive interface. They are a great Christmas present to an iPhone user!"

“Like the people who moved from PCs to Macs and never switched back, you will switch from iPhone to Android and never switch back as everything will be in the cloud, backed up, and there are so many choices for you,” writes Schmidt.

The guide mainly focuses on users updating their software to the latest version and creating various Google accounts to sync their data. Relentless in pushing the company line, Schmidt also offers readers a friendly reminder to switch from Apple’s Safari browser to Google’s Chrome software.

"Be sure to use Chrome, not Safari,” writes Schmidt, “It’s safer and better in so many ways.  And it’s free."
