Huawei and TalkTalk team up for £10/month tablet and smartphone combo

TalkTalk Mobile have teamed up with Chinese telecoms Huawei to offer a £10 a month contract that includes both a tablet and a smartphone – the Huawei MediaPad 7 and Huawei Ascend Y210 respectively.

These tariffs are some of the cheap seen in the UK, and confirm Huawei’s ambitions to conquer the lower end of the Android mobile market. But at such prices it’s no surprise that neither the hardware nor the data allowances are the most tempting on the market.

The £10/month contract gives customers 200MB of data, 100 minutes, and 250 texts over a two-year contract. Bumping your monthly charge to £15 gets 1.5GB of data, whilst another raise to £25 returns 4GB of data plus additional minutes and texts.

As the ‘Lite’ suggests, Huawei’s MediaPad tablet is hardly a powerhouse, coming equipped with a 1.2GHz processor, 1GB of RAM and internal storage of 8GB (though that’s expandable via microSD up to 32GB). The display is 7-inches across with a 600x1024 pixel resolution, and the device comes with cameras front and back.

The Y210 smartphone is similarly entry-level, equipped with a 2-megapixel camera, a 3.5-inch display  and a single core 1GHz processor. Both devices run on Android

The new deals are certainly not aimed at anyone with an eye for top quality, but at only £10 a month for both a smartphone and a tablet, it’s easy to understand the appeal for the casual consumer.
