iPhone 6s release date: Two new handsets to be released on September 25

Pre-orders will begin on Saturday, ahead of final launch soon after

Apple will release the new iPhone 6s and 6s Plus on September 25, with pre-orders opening this week.

That date will see the phone released in the UK and the US, as well as a range of others. By the end of the year, it will be released in over 130 countries and over 400 carriers, Apple said.

Pricing for the new phones will be the same as the iPhone 6 has been for the last year.

The iPhone 6s will be $199 for the 16GB option, $299 for the 64GB and $499 for the 64GB one. The iPhone 6s Plus will be the same price with $100 extra for each option.

Those prices mean that Apple will keep its basic option as 16GB, frustrating those that had hoped the company would increase the storage size.

As well as the traditional launch schedule, Apple unveiled a new “Upgrade Program” that will let customers sign up and then get a new phone ever year.

The release schedule is a slight change from Apple’s previous schedule. Apple usually leaves around a week and a half between the launch and the release — this time, it’s about two and a half weeks.
