iPhone X will have wireless charging but it won’t be ready for release date, report says

Apple is said to be waiting for ‘technological breakthroughs’, which could take some time

One of the iPhone X’s biggest features isn’t going to be ready in time, a new report says.

The handset, which will be unveiled this evening, is expected to support wireless charging.

However, it appears that iPhone X buyers won’t actually be able to purchase a wireless charger from Apple for some time.

A report from KGI analyst Ming-Chi Kuo spotted by 9to5Mac says Apple “has stringent requirements for wireless charger RF specifications” and is “waiting for ‘technological breakthroughs’” before committing to mass-production of the accessory.

That means iPhone X users will have to buy wireless chargers – that support he Qi industry standard – from third-party companies in order to take advantage of the feature.

According to 9to5Mac, KGI “seems confident [Apple’s wireless charger] is so far off it won’t be shown at all” at tonight’s launch event.

While numerous purported images of the iPhone X have leaked over recent weeks, Apple’s wireless charging accessory is yet to make an appearance.

We’ll only find out how accurate the KGI report is later this evening, but EE has added fuel to the fire by adding a range of wireless charging accessories to its Add to Plan scheme, which lets you spread the cost of an accessory over the length of your contract.

The network has also started selling Belkin Qi Wireless Charging pads for £29.99.
