Rockstar's latest creation - the gritty 1940s-themed video game LA Noire - was the most searched for product on the web around the world over the last week.

Data from Google Insights show that under the category Products the term " LA Noire"  experienced a 200 percent increase in searches over the seven days prior to May 25, pushing the video game to the top of the product charts. According to Google Insights the majority of these searches originated from the UK and the United States.

This is the second consecutive week that the video game has appeared in the Google Insights top Product rankings, previously charting in fourth place over the week prior to May 18.

Developed by Rockstar Games, the makers of the Grand Theft Auto series, and Australian Studio Team Bondi, LA Noire was released in the US on May 17 and became available internationally after May 20.

The action-packed game borrows heavily from the film noir genre and tells the story of detective Cole Phelps, played by Mad Men actor Aaron Staton, battling corruption, crime bosses and his own demons in the seedy streets of 1940s Los Angeles.

Versions of the video game tailored for play on PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 consoles are priced at around $60, through prices vary depending on region and platform.

The top search terms with the most significant growth worldwide, in the last seven days, in the category Products as measured by Google Insights, recorded on May 25 were:

01.   la noire (+200%)
02.   canon digital camera (+50%)
03.   poncho (+40%)
